Safety first

Fall protection systems are designed to protect people from falling. This includes various organizational measures as well as technical facilities and personal equipment that are intended to prevent the dangerous, often fatal falls of employees in various occupational groups. Lock Book Draw focuses on the planning of such technical facilities for fall protection on flat roofs and, in the future, also on pitched roofs.

THE ABC OF ROOF PLANNING

ABC Absturzkante

Falling edge

A fall edge is the edge over which persons can fall. A potential fall height of 1 m or more constitutes a hazard and the fall edge and the associated fall-endangered area must be secured.

ABC Absturzgefaehrdeter Bereich

Area at risk of falling

The area at risk of falling begins 2m before the actual edge of the fall. A person may only stay within the fall-endangered area if the person protects themselves against a fall or the consequences of a fall.

ABC Primaere Absturzsicherung

Primary fall protection

Primary fall protection devices provide preventive protection against falling. These devices are intended to prevent people from getting near the edge of the fall in the first place or to prevent a fall from occurring.

ABC Sekundaere Absturzsicherung

Secondary fall protection

In contrast to the primary fall protection, the secondary fall protection actually serves to safely catch persons or material in the event of a fall. Here, so-called anchor devices are used in any case.

ABC Anschlageeinrichtung

Anchor device

An anchorage device consists of at least one individual anchorage point or also rope anchorage system (flat roofs), via which a connection is established between the personal safety system and the structure.

ABC PSAgA

Personal protective equipment against falls from a height (PPE)

The PPE consists at least of a safety harness or a fall arrest vest. These are connected to a rope safety system or an anchor point via a lanyard, e.g. a safety rope.

ABC Einzelanschlagpunkt

Single attachment point (securant)

Single anchor points can be found on flat roofs, for example, and are used by roofers, but also by other occupational groups, to secure themselves against falls with the help of personal protective equipment.

ABC Seilsicherungssystem

Rope safety system

Rope safety systems consist of a flexible stainless steel rope that is stretched between at least two points. People can also secure themselves to this rope system with their PPE.

Paper adé!

For more than 10 years, ABS relied on the classic paper-based workflow. Inquiries were printed out and the corresponding plans and changes were also made on paper. So it was no wonder that a gigantic archive quickly built up, which not only took up a lot of space, but also unnecessarily complicated subsequent processing. In 2015, ABS began to gradually digitize its work processes in order to waste less paper and work more efficiently.

Bonjour Digitalization - Craft 4.0

But a paperless office is not the only thing worth striving for. The new way of planning roofs brings with it great potential for innovation. By digitizing other existing processes, services for customers and end users can gradually be simplified and improved. Lock Book is setting a good example for the digitalization of the trade.

Create projects and planning

When editing different projects and plans, a well-structured and compact overview is essential. Since each created project can contain several plans, these are only displayed on the detail page of the respective project. The different plans can then be edited, duplicated or deleted separately.

webgl planungstool Karte Adresssuche Projekt abs safety

At the place of action

Since 2022, Draw offers the possibility to specify the project location in more detail in addition to the project name when creating a project. For this purpose, an integrated address search is offered, in which the corresponding location is output on a map and the position of the project location can be set directly on the map. In the planning, this project location can then be accessed and the desired map section is inserted to scale as a background image in the planning.

Make it rain

In addition to the true-to-scale map section, data on rainfall amounts at the project site have also been determined automatically since 2022. The rainfall indicators r 5,5 and r 5,100 are transferred to the project in the unit liters per second per hectare for the calculation of drainage. The rainfall amounts can also be specified manually.

R 5 5

r 5,5

r 5,5 indicates the highest amount of precipitation that can be expected in a 5-minute period at a given location 1 time in 5 years. r 5,5 is usually used to calculate interior drainage systems.

R 5 100

r 5,100

r 5,100 indicates the highest amount of precipitation that can be expected in a 5-minute period at a given location 1 time in 100 years. r 5,100 is also called rainfall of the century and is typically used to calculate emergency drainage systems.

Drawing roofs made easy

The first step in planning a fall protection system is to determine the roof surface that is to be secured. By means of the uploaded plan in the background, the auxiliary lines as well as the possibility to specify angles and dimensions precisely, the outer edge of the roof surface can be traced exactly. Even several roof surfaces with different heights can be planned - Draw does the rest for you. Because as soon as a roof surface is closed, Draw automatically determines the danger areas that need to be secured.

DANGEROUS? UNAVAILABLE? PROTECTED?

The design can then be further refined by defining different areas on the roof surface. A photovoltaic system that blocks the passage or a dome light that must not be entered or simply a cutout in the roof surface? Once drawn in, hazardous areas, inaccessible areas or even secured areas are automatically included in the planning and visualized accordingly.

Primary security systems

For setting up a primary safety system, Lock Book Draw offers various railing systems for placement. These can be added manually by setting the railing posts or completely automatically to the 3D planning.

Secondary security systems

Using the information defined when creating the roof areas, a rope safety system can be generated automatically. The predefined areas are also taken into account. Subsequently, the rope anchorage system can be adapted or extended manually. In addition, individual anchor points can also be added manually.

Retention area

A person may only stay within the fall hazard area if the person protects him/herself against a fall or the consequences of a fall. This area is referred to as the retention area. Since 2022, this area is calculated in Draw and visualized as a partial area of the area at risk of falling. In the calculation, not only the current position of the connecting element of the safety rope at the anchorage point or in the lifeline system is considered, but also its displacement on the lifeline system in the event of a fall.

Drainage

When draining a roof, a distinction is made between main drainage and emergency drainage. Emergency drainage is only used during heavy rainfall to drain large amounts of water from the roof as quickly as possible. Since 2022, the drainage of the roof can also be planned in Draw and by adding the precipitation amounts at the project location, it is automatically validated whether the planned measures are sufficient.

Internal

The drainage of a flat roof is primarily realized by draining the water volumes through gullies. The water flows off through vertical downpipes that run from the roof surface through the entire building and are connected in the ground to the property's main pipe. Since the pipes are built into the building, this is referred to as internal drainage. In practice, this principle of drainage is usually used for the main drainage.

webgl planungstool aussenliegend abs safety

External

As an alternative to the drainage of water through gullies in the roof, there is the so-called attic drainage. The attic is the part of the building wall that protrudes above the flat roof. In attic drainage, the water from the flat roof is not drained through the middle of the building, but through the drains in the attic to the outside, and is therefore called external drainage. In practice, this drainage is mostly used for emergency drainage.

Tapered insulation

For the drainage of a flat roof, it must have a prescribed slope. Therefore, in 2022, in addition to the planning of the drainage, the tapered insulation was also integrated into Draw. Tapered insulation creates two advantages when planning flat roofs: It directs the water volumes to the planned drainage points and additionally creates a thermal insulation of the building.

Slope

When planning the tapered insulation, Draw provides the option of calculating the desired tapered insulation based on manual specifications of slope, slab size and other information, or simply performing the calculation based on a concrete product of the sloped insulation. Due to the slope, the lowest and the highest point of the sloped insulation is calculated and visualized in the planning by level numbers on the individually laid insulation boards. The length of the anchorage points is automatically adjusted to the height of the tapered insulation.

U-Value

The U-value indicates the insulating properties of a building component and specifies the heat flow through a building component depending on the temperature gradient between the warm and cold sides in the unit W/(m2K). The unit describes the energy flowing through per square meter in Kelvin. In Draw, the U-value is calculated according to the DIN standard and therefore offers the option of either specifying the desired U-value and having the tapered insulation calculated on this basis or simply having the U-value of the current planning of the tapered insulation displayed as it is.

webgl planungstool Entwaesserung Gefaelledaemmung abs safety

Drainage and tapered insulation

In order for the tapered insulation to support the drainage of the flat roof, it must adapt to the conditions of the planned drainage. For this purpose, Draw plans the drainage points of the main drainage system in the automatic calculation of the tapered insulation. The different slopes ensure that the water flows in the direction of the planned drainage points in each case. This visualizes from which drainage subarea the water is directed to which drainage points.

AS TRUE TO THE ORIGINAL AS POSSIBLE

All products that can be used in planning in Lock Book Draw have been integrated true to the original and to scale. For example, the more than 50 different anchor points are provided as 3D models. There is a suitable anchor point with individual fastening technology for every mounting surface. The different anchor points are automatically filtered and used depending on the selected roof type and substrate.

Everything in scale

Plans can be made to scale and very easily. This is ensured by specifying the scale of the uploaded plan. For this purpose, a known size of the plan is simply measured and its actual length is specified. In this way, the application automatically adapts to the scale of the template with all parameters and the roof can be traced in no time at all.

2D and also 3D

In addition to the classic 2D view, which is primarily suitable for drawing the roof surfaces, users can switch to the 3D view with just one click. Here, not only the drawn roof surfaces are displayed three-dimensionally, but also all settings such as the height of the individual roof surfaces, the materials and the placed securing systems are visualized to scale. Lock Book Draw thus offers an even better and more intuitive view of the entire roof design.

PLANNING EXPORT

The plan can be exported as a PDF at any time. Here you are offered numerous settings that support you in creating the plan in the desired form. These include the selection of the paper format, the insertion and selection of dynamic text modules, the integration of the company logo and the fading in and out of entire layers.

Request planning and let's go!

In the background of Lock Book Draw, the parts list of the current planning is automatically created. Here, all products that are required in the planning are listed clearly and already calculated on quantity or meter goods. The bill of materials can be downloaded directly at any time or read into the usual merchandise management systems. ABS can now create quotations more quickly and easily, which can be requested directly in Lock Book Draw with or without a planning check.

READY FOR ANY TENDER WITH ONE CLICK

The specification of services is the central element of a public tendering procedure and forms the basis for the bid calculation of the participating bidders. Lock Book Draw also supports you here and automatically creates a tender-compliant bill of quantities. In addition to listing products and quantities, this also contains a precise description of the products used and further notes on planning. In addition, the specifications can be downloaded directly as a PDF or GAEB file.

LOOK TO THE FUTURE

Although Lock Book Draw is already a fully comprehensive and revolutionary tool, more features and optimizations are already planned. Over the next few years, for example, the design and usability will be further optimized, but also the degree of automation of fall protection will be advanced. Other plannable products as well as the complex planning of pitched roofs will also be added. ABS relies heavily on feedback from users and wants to involve them closely in the development process. For example, users can report deficiencies in the application and provide feedback, which flows directly into further development.
